Decision Point Center

505 Whipple Street, Prescott, Arizona, 86301
Decision Point takes a contemporary view of addiction as a chronic disease, not a choice. And like any chronic condition, addiction must be managed throughout one’s life. But this does not mean having to live life any less fully or with limitations. On the contrary, we believe that by learning to manage the condition of addiction and its associated disorders, people become better at learning to overcome the many other adversities they will encounter throughout their lives. We believe that treating addiction should be seen as a positive and healthful path of hope and growth.

Facility Highlights

  • Treatment for Adults 18+

  • 45-Day Residential Treatment Program

Treatment for drug and alcohol abuse in our 45-Day Inpatient Treatment Program involves a combination of behavioral and holistic therapies designed to achieve cessation from alcohol and drugs, an understanding of the causes of the disease of addiction, the ability to identify “triggers” for relapse, and the wherewithal to navigate one’s way back on track by seeking appropriate help should relapse occur. Should the client or the clinicians at Decision Point Center determine that deeper therapeutic work on underlying mental health issues, and/or educational and vocational counseling be of significant benefit to the client, he or she may elect to stay on for our 45-day Extended Residential Treatment Program. All 45-Day Residential Treatment clients live and receive treatment at Decision Point’s Prescott, Arizona treatment center.
  • Extended Treatment Program

In some cases, clients, their families, and the treatment team agree that a longer term stay may be warranted. This is extended period of treatment allows for further stabilization from addictive behaviors and in some cases, more in-depth treatment of mental health and trauma-related issues. However, the 45-Day Extended Treatment Program also provides additional therapies and services focused on each client's individual issues as well as the development of life skills such as money management, banking skills, resume writing and interviewing skills, and educational and vocational consulting, and more. We find that for many clients, addiction and substance use disorder are accompanied by a perceived inability to engage with life on life's own terms. We believe that this perception is due to a lack of emotional maturity and an inability to take responsibility for one’s self and future. The Extended Program gives each client an opportunity to develop these traits, in some cases, for the first time.

Rehabs 360 Guide

Set in the Bradshaw Mountains of central Arizona, Decision Point Center provides dual diagnosis treatment for individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental illness or trauma. The Prescott residential rehab center is one of only 5.9 percent of Arizona treatment facilities to provide non-hospital residential detox services. These are followed by an extended assessment program, evidence-based psychotherapy, and outdoor recreational therapies. Having opened in 2002, the facility significantly redesigned its programming in 2016, placing high priority on serving clients in a shame-free environment that supports whole-person recovery.

The standard 45-day residential program at Decision Point Center begins with a 14-day comprehensive assessment process, according to the facility’s website. Clients in need of immediate physical care can be admitted to the detox program for access to 24/7 medical support during withdrawal from substances including heroin, cocaine, alcohol, and benzodiazepines. Once a client is stabilized, they are typically transitioned into continued residential treatment.

Programming is designed to address each client’s nutritional, medical, psychiatric, psychological, relational, and vocational wellness. In keeping with a therapeutic community recovery model, Decision Point’s introduces recovery support groups involving traditional and newer 12-step principles, such as Alcoholic Anonymous and Celebrate Recovery, and non-12-step approaches, such as SMART Recovery.

Trauma-oriented therapy at Decision Point primarily utilizes eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), while cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) serves as a core modality. Also practiced are motivational interviewing and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

Outdoor recreational therapy is a distinctive part of the Decision Point program, too. The center’s location supports hiking, rock-climbing, backpacking, and equine therapy. Alternative activities for residents with physical limitations are provided. For clients participating in long-term programs, up to 90 days, career counseling and financial education are included, designed to address failure-to-launch challenges. Family therapy is encouraged. Case managers assist clients during treatment with legal obligations and family meetings and provide one year of follow-up.

The treatment team at Decision Point Center includes a certified EMDR therapist, recreational therapists, nursing staff, and master’s-level counselors. Some staff members are in personal recovery. The center is one of the just 20 percent of facilities nationwide to hold Joint Commission credentials.

Residents at Decision Point Centers live in comfortable, apartment-style spaces in separate women’s and men’s buildings. Website photographs feature multiple outside meeting spaces, shared bedrooms, media rooms, a computer room, and a game room with a pool table.
