Mission statement, staff kindness, facilities, extracurricular activities were good. Communication was poor. My son entered the care of Westport House in 2014 after a strong recommendation from his therapist at Silver Hill Hospital. He remained within their care for a total of eight months and has been sober ever since. Highly recommend attending the Family Programming events, as it helped my husband and I navigate our relationship with our son as he began to restructure his life. Kind and sympathetic staff that still check in with my son to this day. Very grateful for this facilities help, would absolutely recommend their services.
It feels almost impossible to express my gratitude and love for Eden Hill--the program, the staff and the house. I went to Eden Hill convinced I would leave after 30 days, but within a week I knew I was going to stay longer and ended up living there 5 months. Before arriving at Eden Hill I had spent the last decade of my life in a hopeless and unmanageable state. I was debilitatingly depressed, unemployable, and incapable of functioning even on a basic level. When I was doing my intake, the director, looked at me and told me I was going to be okay. And I believed her. I arrived there in January of 2016, and this coming January I will be celebrating three years of sobriety. At Eden Hill I learned that I was worthy of recovery, and that my past does not need to define me. I learned that I could have fun in sobriety and form the meaningful relationships with women that I had always craved. In making my bed everyday, I got to begin each day with an accomplishment, which I would build on throughout the day in the groups. I have never felt more safe and loved anywhere in the world. It changed my life, and helped me become the version of myself I always wanted to be. Eden Hill will always be a home to me. I know that any time I need, I can simply show up at the door there will be someone to welcome me in lovingly and tell me that I'm going to be okay, just like my very first day there.
Our son went to Turnbridge and has very recently been discharged after 11 months. He has come a long way and appears to have turned his attitude and lifestyle around from nonproductive to productive and hopeful. The length of this program gave him the time to rediscover himself and his talents. It takes more than 30 days to remove the negativity that the use of substances creates, and replace all of that with good habits and positive thinking. This facility isn't perfect, no place is, but the environment really benefitted our son. The town of New Haven adds to the program's success because its hard to walk around town without running into a successful Turnbridge alumni or current client. The guys seem to watch out for each other. Our son became friends with some very cool men who choose sobriety. There are many factors that contribute to success, including the work that the client and his/her family are willing to do. We are very hopeful that our son will successfully carry on with his life. He has learned coping skills that he did not previously possess. The staff at Turnbridge was impressive. They invested in him, taught him how to create a sober network and reinforced his value as a human being with great potential. Ultimately it is up to the client to do what he is asked to do.
