Banyan saved my life. The staff and the therapist here are really great. They gave me the confidence I need to get back into the real world.
Im leaving soon, I've been here almost 4 months and throughout my time at River Oaks, my therapist Lauren helped me the most. She pushed me to talk about things that I didnt want to talk about but that I needed to talk about. She really pushed me to think about things that I needed to do to be successful in my transition out of treatment. She didnt just counsel me, she set me up for success. She helped me get extended time here through my insurance. At first I was not paying attention in the groups, but Lauren challenged me to participate, and once I did, I learned to listen with an open mind and got so much from the classes including how to deal with anxiety, relationships, family, and stress. I was able to get into a routine while at River Oaks and I did a lot of volleyball and gym. I was part of the Big Brother program which helped me get involved with the community more and pushed me to do more with my recovery. The space that we have here is very nice to be able to go outside and do different things. Were not confined to a certain building or small area. River Oaks definitely got me stable and gave me the tools to be successful. It gave me a good foundation to start and now that Im going to sober living I feel better prepared to start my journey in recovery.
The program good, counselors very good. Effective program. Unfortunately the insurance dept. and coordinator are inept boarding on incompetent, despite being a self proclaimed insurance "expert". Payment in full is required up front, as GB is out of network with many carriers. The in house assessment was that in patient treatment was required, but the ins. carrier ultimately determined it was not and denied the claim. GB insurance coordinator stated that pre authorization of in patient was received, but has NEVER produced this, despite numerous requests. It was obvious she did not understand the internal/external appeal process on this private insurance plan and resulted not being able to bring in an attorney before appeals were exhausted. This has been the only in patient stay where insurance did not cover, the only difference, ins submittal and back up support. Bottom line? Good program , do not count on competent help on insurance or rely on reimbursement.
