I will say programming 7 day a week is tiring even while on detox but it was needed and worth it. I read a lot of mixed reviews but overall I had a great experience here.

Free treatment for Homeless Veterans with good relations with local agencies and job assistance when a client completes the program. Food could be better. Good program to help Homeless Veterans, such as myself to get off the streets. I am receiving HUD VASH which pays 100% of my rent in a little studio apt. for over three years. Also has good job placement resources to help find a job.

Where Can I Find Medical Detox Centers in Nevada?

Depending on the magnitude of physical dependence, alcohol withdrawal syndrome may range from mild to physically dangerous. Symptoms may include irritability, anxiety, agitation, high blood pressure, increased heart rate, seizures and in rarer cases, delirium tremens.3

Alcohol withdrawal may be dangerous when done on your own; because of this, a supervised, medical detox center can help avoid unnecessary discomfort or life-threatening withdrawal complications. Detox is the process of getting substances out of your body and helping you manage acute withdrawal symptoms from alcohol.4 These types of programs provide individuals with onsite physicians and 24-hour care to manage alcohol withdrawal symptoms.4

Medical detox centers in Nevada are primarily found in the southern tip of the state in Las Vegas. However, medically-assisted detox is also available in Carson City, which is located on the western coast of Nevada just outside of California. To find local detox facilities in Nevada, search SAMHSA’s directory which can be found here.

Does My Insurance Work at a Nevada Treatment Center?

Due to the potentially high cost of addiction treatment, most rehab centers accept health insurance to help clients offset the out-of-pocket expenses associated with their care. Private health insurance is accepted at more than 70% of the treatment centers in Nevada, 90.2% accept cash or self-payment, 63.9% accept Medicaid, and 59.1% offer a sliding fee scale that adjusts payments to accommodate the amount the client can reasonably afford based on their income.2

If you’re considering private health coverage versus state coverage, first make sure that your policy covers rehab for substance use disorder. Coverage varies by provider, policy, and individual need. Some plans will only cover detox and outpatient treatment, while others may provide coverage for a significant portion of the costs associated with inpatient or residential care.

Below are some of the most popular health insurance providers in Nevada:

Inpatient Nevada Alcohol Rehab

For those with severe alcohol use disorders, inpatient rehabilitation may be the preferred option.

Inpatient treatment for alcohol use disorders involves 24-hour care at a specialized treatment facility. Often, inpatient stays are relative brief. Short-term inpatient/residential programs usually offer intensive programming based on a 12-Step recovery model. Some people will prefer to stay in a longer-term residential program, sometimes called a “therapeutic community,” that typically lasts between 6 and 12 months. These programs offer a chance for the patient to learn new skills and receive comprehensive services to reintegrate into the sober community.5

Inpatient care is a bit different at every treatment facility; not all programs will include medical detoxification. Because alcohol withdrawal syndrome tends to bring with it dangerous side effects, many providers will recommend medically managed detoxification. For someone who is alcohol-dependent, inpatient programs that include withdrawal management will be ideal.

However, detoxing from alcohol often isn’t sufficient when it comes to treating the psychological and emotional issues that accompany an AUD and early sobriety. To assess these needs, a patient may transition to residential care, a lower (but still highly intensive) level of care involving 24/7 monitoring by trained medical staff.5

The benefits of inpatient treatment for those suffering with an AUD are endless. There are multiple benefits to inpatient alcohol rehab, such as:5

  • Around-the-clock supervision.
  • Highly structured days (which provide contrast to the chaos of addiction).
  • Withdrawal management and medical supervision.
  • Unparalleled accountability.
  • Can be tailored to specific populations, such as pregnant women, people with co-occurring mental health conditions, or those with special needs.
  • Skills training (and sometimes vocational/career support/training).

Outpatient Nevada Alcohol Rehab

There are multiple routes to recovery, and not every person suffering from an AUD is the same. Some people require more intensive care, while others may require more flexibility or only be able to financially manage a lower level of care.

Outpatient programs, just like inpatient programs, vary in intensity and duration depending on the specific rehab program in question. However, many outpatient programs offer a more intensive level of treatment, comparable to inpatient programs. For example, partial hospitalization offers therapy for most hours of the day, allowing you to return home at night.

Outpatient programs are also a good option for those who are either transitioning from a higher level of care, such as residential care or medical detoxification, or who need greater amount of flexibility to tend to matters like childcare.

Naturally, because they reflect a lower level of treatment, outpatient treatment tends to be a better fit for people with a larger and healthier sober support network, or with a less severe alcohol use disorder.5

Desert Hope Rehab in the Las Vegas, Nevada often assesses whether a person is right for outpatient treatment based on the severity of their drug or alcohol use disorder and their psychiatric history. Desert Hope offers multiple types of outpatient care, one of which is the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). PHP takes place at least 5 days every week for around 6 hours per day. PHP is still highly structured while still allowing patients the freedom to live at home, live in sober living, have jobs, and see family members and friends. In PHP, a patient spends at least 90 minutes a day in group therapy.

Similarly, Desert Hope’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) takes place at least 3 days a week for a minimum of 3 hours of care each of those days. IOP serves as a great option for those who wish to step down in their treatment from a higher level of care. In outpatient treatment, patients typically continue participating in similar therapeutic models as they did in PHP.

Why Choose AAC?

American Addiction Centers (AAC) offers a nationwide network of facilities, an alumni support system, quality care, and a 90-day promise.

We’re committed to your recovery. When you invest and successfully complete 90 consecutive days at an American Addiction Centers facility, we believe that you have created the most solid foundation for your long-term goals of sobriety. In the event that you experience a relapse, you are welcome back for a complimentary 30 days of our treatment. This is our promise to you.

Nevada Insurance (i.e. Medicaid) Treatment Facilities

Medicaid offers health coverage to individuals and families throughout the U.S. based on certain eligibility requirements set forth by the federal government. Medicaid is the largest source of healthcare coverage in the country, assisting 72.5 million Americans with health coverage at any given time.4

Medicaid eligibility is determined based on the following items:

  • Modified adjusted gross income (MAGI)
  • US citizenship (or qualified non-citizens)
  • Pregnancy or parenting status

More than 630,000 individuals were enrolled in Medicaid in Nevada as of 2019.5 The state expanded Medicaid coverage to low-income adults and, as of 2016, the following income eligibility levels are tied to the overall federal poverty level (FPL):5

  • Adults who are parents or caretakers must have a MAGI of 32% or less of the FPL to qualify
  • Adults that do not have children/are not caretakers must have a MAGI of 133% or less of the FPL to qualify
  • Pregnant women may qualify for Medicaid if their income is 160% of the FPL or less

To enroll for Medicaid or find out if you qualify, visit the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services website and apply for assistance.6 This will help to determine your eligibility for Medicaid or other programs offered in Nevada to help residents live a healthy lifestyle.

If you already have Medicaid, treatment for alcohol addiction may be found at one of the 8,685 centers that accepts Medicaid in Nevada.1 These facilities may have limited availability but accept the state-level coverage that is provided to an estimated 633,325 residents currently.5

Free Alcohol Rehab in Nevada

If you’re unable to afford private or state-funded programs, there are still a number of free or financially-assisted rehab clinics available to you within Nevada. In some cases, these clinics may offer scholarships, other forms of free or discounted treatment, or sliding scales determined by the amount you’re able to pay.

Many faith-based rehabilitation programs are free of charge—such as Jews in Recovery and The Salvation Army—and do not require their patients to subscribe to any particular religious belief. If faith-based rehabilitation are not viable options for you, another way to seek help is by searching out local support groups in your area, most of which are free to attend.

A supportive community of like-minded, recovery-focused peers such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) can play an important role in your journey. Although AA members are not required to subscribe to a particular faith, the steps involve the belief in the divine being. If this isn’t for you, other support groups are available with no religious affiliation such as:

Packing List for Alcohol Rehab in Nevada

Nevada is known for the hot climate that often reaches well into the 90s in summer and remains in the upper 50s or higher most of the winter.7 When packing clothes for rehab, it’s likely you won’t need a heavy coat or the snow clothes you may be accustomed to if you live in a cooler region of the U.S. However, as it is the desert, it can get cold in the winter months, so a warm jacket is still needed.

Consider packing the following items for your treatment journey:

  • Cotton clothing.
  • Loose-fitting attire.
  • Shorts, jeans, skirts, dresses.
  • Athletic wear.
  • One nice outfit for special occasions.
  • A semi-heavy jacket for fall and winter.
  • Closed-toed shoes for the cooler seasons, as well as at night.
  • Sandals or flip-flops.
  • Sunglasses and hats.
  • Alcohol-free toiletries (toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, sunscreen).

Avoid packing clothing that has offensive graphics or language printed on it. Also, do not bring any clothing that is provocative or that promotes drug or alcohol use.

You may also wish to bring the following items:

  • Your driver’s license or state-issued ID card.
  • A list of medications you are currently taking.
  • Your insurance card.
  • Laundry detergent.
  • Special photos or mementos of family and friends, including names, phone numbers, and addresses to keep in touch while you are away.
  • A journal.

Before you pack nail clippers, files, razors, or any electronic devices, check with the program you will attend to ensure such items are allowed.

Traveling to Desert Hope Treatment Center

Many people who attend rehab for an alcohol use disorder at Desert Hope Treatment Center choose to travel to receive their addiction treatment. There are many benefits to travelling somewhere new to attend an alcohol rehab, such as seizing the ability to build a more stable support network of sober people in this new area.

Patients looking to attend Desert Hope Treatment Center may drive or fly to one of the many airports in the Las Vegas area, such as:

  • McCarran International Airport.
  • North Las Vegas Airport.
  • Henderson Executive Airport.
  • Mesquite airport.

The most convenient airport is McCarran. It only takes a 4-mile drive to arrive at Desert Hope from McCarran airport.

Finding Rehab for Alcohol in a Different State

If you or a loved one would prefer to find alcohol rehab programs outside of Nevada, there are many different programs in states throughout the nation near you.
