The center is very nice. The accommodations are pretty nice as well. My issues were with the Counselors and the scheduling. They most definitely need better counselors. Most of them are full of themselves and are set in their mind frames. Your point of view and thoughts do not matter to them. Once they have made up their mind about what they think you are doing or saying, there is nothing that you can say as a patient that will change that. I almost feel like, my thoughts were not even listened to. As far as the scheduling goes, it's just with the timings of events. You are never told when the meetings are, you just have to sit and wait for the tech to say, we are leaving in 30 minutes or so. You have to wait on that info to plan your events. Different houses seem to follow different routines as well. I heard a few other houses complain that they were not getting the same benefits that we were getting. BEWARE: The COUNSELORS TALK TO YOUR FAMILY WITHOUT TELLING YOU AND AT TIMES EVEN CONVINCE THEM TO PAY OUT OF POCKET WHEN INSURANCE REFUSES TO. At over $2K a day, that is a lot of money out of pocket.
Strengths include: Highly experienced and knowledgeable staff. Separate gender specific adolescent and young adult programs. Relapse program. Very caring and responsive to patients and parents. Exceptional Family Education Program. Program for young siblings of patients. Scholarships are available - in 2014, gave $18 million. Follow up care for patients after they leave. Parent and alumni support groups, including Young Adult Recovery Network. Sunday Chapel services are great for all of every faith, aetheists. Local Rabbi available and has weekly Shabbat services and dinner. Weaknesses include: Could use a specific person to communicate solely with patient families. However, not a "weakness," because counselors and staff are available. Do not rule out based on cost alone. Scholarship assistance is available. Caron uniquely has large and geographically diverse support groups and alumni. Always willing to help, even after discharge.
Highland house was my last stop after 2 weeks of detox, and a 3 months of rehab, this was my 1/2way house. It made all the difference leaving my home turf, its a dead little town but it's keeping me sober, The staff present when I was there were fantastic, Still talk to a few of them ..After almost 34 yrs of heroin addiction my sobriety came from leaving the comfort of home and people I knew.
