Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
Patients who undergo intensive outpatient treatment continue to live at home and sometimes go to school or work while participating in a highly structured treatment protocol that is focused on ending substance abuse. Programs vary in terms of how much treatment patients receive, how often and for how long. Some facilities design individualized intensive outpatient treatment programs.Dual Diagnosis/ Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

- Melissa Kannaday, M.D.Medical DirectorDr. Kannaday received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina where she graduated with high honors. She completed her medical training at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Her residency in general psychiatry was completed at Palmetto Health/University of South Carolina where she served as Chief Resident and was recognized as Resident of the Year. Dr. Kannaday serves as the Medical Director of Three Rivers. She is published in the International Journal of Eating Disorders, Hot Topics in Neurology and Current Psychiatry Reports. Dr. Kannaday is board certified in general psychiatry. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, South Carolina Psychiatric Association, and American Medical Association.
- Elyssia Lowe-NarayanChief Executive OfficerElyssia Lowe-Narayan received her BA in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. She began her healthcare career at The Bobby Benson Center on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, where she worked in a variety of clinical roles with adolescents and their families. In 2007, Elyssia was hired as the Business Development Director at Lighthouse Care Center of Conway in South Carolina. She was promoted in 2009 to CEO in Training/COO at Brooke Glen Behavioral Hospital in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, a 146-bed child, adolescent and adult facility.
