I was in inpatient in the fall of 2018. My experience with SMR was generally positive. The atmosphere they provide is extremely uplifting and hopeful that you can get your life back together. They provide group sessions which are extremely uncomfortable at first but ultimately worth it. The counselor you’re assigned to will take you through your lowest points of your addiction with the other members of your group and then will try and inspire you that you can do better. You go through the steps in the Big Book with your group and it really makes you confront yourself and your problems which led you to where you are currently. You’re given a journal to record your thoughts, literally anything you want, which for me was the perfect creative outlet. They also have an auditorium type room for film strips, NA meetings with the entire facility and speakers. Almost everyone I met who works at SMR has been through the recovery process themselves and the counselors take turns sharing their stories with us on stage.
The food is pretty amazing, the grounds are absolutely beautiful, the facility is clean and bright. It was a great place to start my recovery journey.
I’m not sure if it’s still the same almost five years later, but if it is I highly recommend Sundown for treatment. They helped save my life and I’m forever grateful.
